The Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI (WSAI) at IIT Madras is set to launch a new AI Studio, a venture-building initiative designed to turn research in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science into companies.

The studio will support ideas from the early research stage through business development and market validation. Selected ventures will receive seed funding, cloud and computing credits, access to research laboratories and data resources, mentoring, an Entrepreneur-in-Residence and product-market-fit support.

The programme will not be limited to IIT Madras researchers. Academic founders from other institutions and external entrepreneurs with AI, ML or data-science ideas or early-stage ventures will also be eligible to apply. The first application cycle is scheduled to open on October 3, 2026.

The initiative will focus on areas including health AI, education AI, responsible AI and Indic-language AI. Selected teams will go through a structured programme lasting around six months, with the possibility of eventually becoming part of the IIT Madras Incubation Cell ecosystem.
