Political protests have intensified in parts of India over demands concerning the functioning of the Election Commission and recent voter-roll revisions. Opposition parties and youth groups have raised concerns about the Special Intensive Revision process and alleged voter disenfranchisement. The Election Commission and the BJP have rejected allegations that the process is politically motivated, saying voter-roll revision is intended to identify and remove invalid entries.

On Sunday, demonstrations were reported in Delhi and Mumbai, with protesters demanding accountability and greater transparency in electoral processes. The issue has also reached the Supreme Court, which is scheduled to hear petitions concerning the functioning of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the legality of actions connected with the voter-roll revision process.

The controversy has become an important political issue because voter registration directly affects citizens’ ability to participate in elections. Critics argue that legitimate voters could be excluded if verification procedures are not handled carefully. Authorities, however, maintain that updating electoral rolls is necessary to ensure accurate voter lists.

The Supreme Court proceedings could provide important legal clarity on the process and the powers involved. Political parties are expected to continue raising the issue in the coming days as discussions over electoral reforms and voter rights gain attention.
