The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple weather alerts covering **rain, snowfall and dense fog conditions across at least 10 Indian states, warning of reduced visibility, travel disruptions and continued cold conditions in both plains and mountainous regions.
A western disturbance and associated weather systems are expected to bring light to moderate rainfall over parts of north and central India, while snowfall is forecast in the western Himalayan region, particularly over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand at higher elevations. Dense to very dense fog is a major concern, especially during early mornings and night hours, with the IMD warning that this could persist in states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Odisha and parts of central India.
Official bulletins also highlight cold day and cold wave conditions over isolated pockets in several states as temperatures remain significantly below seasonal normals. The dense fog conditions have already led to visibility dropping below 50 metres in some locations, prompting advisories for motorists to use fog lights and plan journeys carefully, as highway and rail services may see delays.
Airport operations in fog-prone regions such as Delhi-NCR have faced disruptions, with flights delayed due to poor visibility. Officials have urged residents, commuters and travellers to stay updated on local forecasts and heed safety warnings as the winter weather pattern continues over the coming days news as reported.
