The Telangana government has taken a major step to combat rising drug abuse by establishing 35 Addiction Treatment Facility centres across the state, including in Hyderabad. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address substance abuse as a public health issue.

The centres provide comprehensive care, including medical treatment, counselling, detoxification, and long-term rehabilitation. The program is being implemented with support from the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau, which is also working to control drug trafficking.

Authorities have introduced advanced testing kits and specialized treatment units to handle severe addiction cases. Patients are enrolled in structured rehabilitation programs that include therapy sessions, family counselling, and follow-up care.

Officials emphasized that addiction should not be treated as a crime but as a medical condition requiring proper care and support. The government is also focusing on awareness campaigns in schools and colleges to educate young people about the dangers of drug use.

The rise in drug abuse among youth has become a serious concern in recent years. By combining enforcement with treatment and prevention, the government aims to create a safer and healthier society.

Experts say this initiative marks a shift toward a more compassionate and effective approach to tackling substance abuse in Telangana.
