Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to travel to New York later this month to address the United Nations General Assembly on September 24, 2026, according to Israelโs UN ambassador Danny Danon. Netanyahu is expected to arrive on September 23 and return to Israel the same night after his address.
The planned visit comes amid heightened international criticism of Israel’s military operations in Gaza and controversy surrounding an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant issued against Netanyahu in 2024. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani had called for Netanyahu’s arrest but later acknowledged that the city does not have the authority to enforce the ICC warrant.
Netanyahu’s appearance is expected to draw large protests and demonstrations in New York. Israel’s UN ambassador said he anticipates disruptions similar to those during Netanyahu’s 2025 UN address, when numerous delegates walked out of the General Assembly hall.
According to Danon, Netanyahu is expected to focus on Israel’s diplomatic opportunities, regional developments and the possibility of expanding the Abraham Accords, while Israel continues negotiations and diplomatic contacts with countries in the region.
The visit comes as the 81st session of the UN General Assembly gets underway, with world leaders gathering in New York for the annual high-level diplomatic meetings.
