One of the two men killed in the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue attack in Manchester appears to have been accidentally shot by police as armed officers tried to stop the attacker, Greater Manchester Police said on October 3. The attack occurred the previous day, during Yom Kippur.
The victims were identified as Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66. Police said Daulby suffered a gunshot wound. Because the attacker was not carrying a firearm and police fired the shots at the scene, investigators said Daulby’s wound may have resulted from police gunfire. Another person being treated in hospital also suffered a gunshot wound.
Police said the attacker drove a vehicle into pedestrians and then carried out a knife attack outside the synagogue. Armed officers shot and killed him after worshippers and security personnel prevented him from entering the building. Authorities treated the incident as a terrorist attack and continued investigating the circumstances and possible connections.
