In a major diplomatic development linked to efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in Gaza, eight predominantly Islamic and Arab nations have formally announced their intention to join a U.S.–led initiative known as the “Board of Peace.” Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates issued a joint statement on Wednesday welcoming an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to participate in the board.

The Board of Peace, an initiative backed by the United States and referenced in United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, is envisioned as a transitional governing body aimed at consolidating a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, supporting reconstruction efforts and advancing a just and lasting peace in the region. Each participating nation indicated that it would sign accession documents in line with its own legal procedures.

Foreign ministers from the eight countries reaffirmed their support for the peace efforts and emphasized their commitment to implementing the mission of the board. They described the initiative as a key mechanism to bring about stability, uphold Palestinian self-determination, and facilitate broader regional security, stressing cooperation with international partners. While the Board’s broader international role remains subject to debate, its formation signifies a significant step in efforts to mobilize regional backing for a negotiated end to the Gaza conflict.
