Private bus fares from Chennai have risen sharply ahead of the Ayudha Puja holiday rush, with tickets to some popular destinations reaching nearly ₹5,000.
According to a report published today, Chennai–Kodaikanal fares have reached ₹4,999, while fares to Ooty have crossed ₹3,500. Tickets to Madurai and Coimbatore are also exceeding ₹3,000 on some dates around the festival period.
Transport officials said they would verify the fare increases and take action if necessary. The Omni Bus Owners Association said its suggested fare caps are lower than some of the prices currently being charged.
