Chennai witnessed heavy traffic on the GST Road as thousands of people returned to the city after the long Vinayagar Chaturthi holiday. Large numbers of residents who had travelled to their hometowns began returning ahead of the reopening of offices, schools and other institutions.

Traffic congestion was reported along several key stretches, with Tambaram, Perungalathur, Vandalur and Kilambakkam among the affected areas. The heavy flow of returning passengers also created pressure around bus terminals and railway stations.

To manage the rush, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations arranged 4,095 special buses for the post-holiday period, including additional services from Kilambakkam and other major transport hubs.

News as Reported.
