The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has urged more than 6 lakh property owners to clear their pending property-tax dues, which have reached approximately ₹847.80 crore. The outstanding amount includes current and previous property-tax payments that remain unpaid.
The civic body has asked property owners to settle their dues by September 30. GCC is focusing on improving tax collection because property-tax revenue is an important source of funding for civic services and infrastructure across Chennai.
With such a large amount outstanding, the corporation is expected to intensify its collection efforts. Property owners who delay payment may also face applicable penal interest under the relevant rules.
