Residents in several parts of Chennai are facing a temporary disruption in piped drinking water supply following scheduled maintenance work at the Nemmeli Desalination Plant and key pipeline infrastructure. The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) announced that water distribution would be suspended in select areas to facilitate essential maintenance and interconnection works aimed at improving the city’s water supply network.
According to Metro Water officials, the disruption affects parts of the Adyar, Perungudi, and Sholinganallur zones, including localities such as Thiruvanmiyur, Velachery, Kottivakkam, Perungudi, Pallikaranai, Neelankarai, Karapakkam, and Sholinganallur. Water supply has been suspended from June 12 and is expected to resume after the completion of maintenance activities.
Separately, a 24-hour shutdown has also been announced in parts of Anna Nagar, Ambattur, and Kolathur due to pipeline interconnection work near the Padi Flyover. Authorities stated that these upgrades are necessary to strengthen Chennai’s water distribution infrastructure and ensure better long-term service reliability.
Residents have been advised to store sufficient drinking water and use it judiciously during the interruption. Metro Water has assured that tanker services and emergency water supply arrangements will continue in affected areas wherever required.
