Hundreds of residents in Avadi and nearby areas staged protests after a prolonged power outage disrupted normal life and affected homes through the early hours of Friday. The protest intensified near the substation in Kamaraj Nagar, where residents gathered demanding immediate restoration of electricity.

According to reports, some residents also organized a road blockade on the busy CTH Road, temporarily affecting traffic movement before police reached the location and helped bring the situation under control. Videos of the protest circulated widely online and reflected public frustration over repeated outages and delays in restoration.

The Avadi incident comes amid wider concerns over recurring power disruptions across parts of Chennai and its suburbs in recent days. Electricity authorities have said some outages were linked to distribution faults and infrastructure issues, while earlier incidents also involved theft of electrical components that affected local supply systems.

Tamil Nadu authorities have introduced additional monitoring measures and restoration teams to respond faster to outages and reduce disruption for residents during periods of high electricity demand.
