A major infrastructure boost for air travel in Tamil Nadu is moving ahead as authorities approved a revised access plan for the upcoming satellite terminal at Chennai Airport. The project is expected to improve passenger movement, strengthen cargo operations, and support long-term aviation growth in the region.

The latest decision replaces an earlier proposal for a dedicated elevated corridor with a public access road connecting the terminal to surrounding transport networks. The revised plan was accepted after recommendations aimed at making the project more useful not only for airport users but also for nearby communities.

Officials say the change will improve connectivity for areas including Kolapakkam and Tharapakkam, helping reduce travel complexity around the airport zone while expanding public access.

The satellite terminal is planned between the airport’s runways and is expected to support both passenger and cargo services. Chennai Airport’s broader modernization program is designed to increase annual handling capacity to more than 35 million passengers, helping meet growing travel demand and strengthening Chennai’s role as a major aviation hub in South India.
