Hyderabad recently experienced sudden thunderstorms and gusty winds, bringing temporary relief from intense summer heat. The city, along with several districts across Telangana, witnessed evening showers, lightning, and even hailstorms after days of extremely high temperatures.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the unusual weather pattern is the result of extreme daytime heating combined with moisture from the Bay of Bengal. These conditions lead to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, which cause evening thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures in the region have been ranging between 40°C and 44°C, making the showers a welcome change for residents.
The IMD has predicted that similar weather conditions may continue for the next few days, particularly in the evenings. Several districts, including Hyderabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, and Nizamabad, have been placed under weather alerts. Despite the rainfall, nighttime temperatures remain relatively high, contributing to overall discomfort.
While the rain has helped cool temperatures temporarily, experts caution that it does not signal the arrival of the monsoon. Instead, these are pre-monsoon convective activities common during peak summer. Authorities have also advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms due to the risk of lightning and strong winds.
The sudden weather change highlights the increasing unpredictability of climate patterns in the region. While citizens welcome the relief from heat, experts stress the importance of preparedness for extreme weather events, which are becoming more frequent due to climate variability.
