At least 73 civilians, including women and children, were injured in a series of Houthi attacks targeting southern Saudi Arabia, according to the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen.
The attacks reportedly targeted civilian and economic sites in the cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran. Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki al-Malki described the attacks as a dangerous escalation and said Saudi Arabia would take measures to deter further attacks.
The latest escalation comes amid renewed fighting between the Iran-aligned Houthis and Saudi-backed forces in Yemen. The Houthis have not immediately confirmed the coalition’s reported casualty figure.
The attacks are raising concerns about a wider regional escalation, particularly because Jazan and other southern Saudi areas host important civilian and economic infrastructure.
