Pakistan has intensified security operations following the deadly terror attack in Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where multiple police officers and civilians were killed in a coordinated assault involving a car bombing and gunfire. Authorities said security forces have launched large-scale search operations across the region to track down militants linked to the attack.
The attack reportedly targeted a police compound and nearby checkpoints late Tuesday night, causing heavy explosions and panic across the area. Officials confirmed that several attackers were killed during the operation, while others managed to escape into nearby mountainous regions. Emergency services rushed the injured to hospitals as military helicopters were deployed for aerial surveillance.
Pakistan’s Interior Ministry stated that additional troops and intelligence units have now been stationed in sensitive districts bordering Afghanistan. Security agencies also increased checkpoints and patrols in major cities following fears of further attacks.
The attack has once again highlighted growing security concerns in northwestern Pakistan, where militant violence has sharply increased over the past two years. Analysts say militant groups have intensified operations after the collapse of earlier ceasefire efforts between Islamabad and insurgent factions.
