The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has floated a fresh ₹633.12 crore tender to complete the stalled 25.5-km Arakkonam–Kancheepuram section of the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway in Tamil Nadu. The tender covers the stretch from Km 204.5 to Km 230 and is one of the last major incomplete sections of the corridor.

The section had reached about 53% physical progress, with 11.03 km completed, before work was halted in May 2025 because of financial difficulties faced by the contractor. The contract was subsequently terminated by NHAI following a prolonged legal dispute.

Under the new Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract, the selected contractor will have 18 months to complete the remaining work, followed by five years of maintenance. Bids can be submitted until September 28, 2026, with opening scheduled for September 29.

The package includes significant infrastructure works, including nine major bridges, one railway overbridge, two grade separators, two minor bridges, 18 underpasses and 44 box culverts.

Most other sections of the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway are already at advanced stages of completion. Once the Arakkonam–Kancheepuram stretch is completed, it will remove one of the major remaining gaps in the corridor and improve connectivity between Chennai and Bengaluru.
