Chennai is expected to witness rain showers and thunderstorms through the weekend as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued fresh weather alerts for several parts of Tamil Nadu. Officials said humid conditions, cloud cover, lightning, and gusty winds are likely across the city over the next few days.
According to weather forecasts, light to moderate rainfall may bring temporary relief from the intense summer heat currently affecting Chennai and nearby districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by winds reaching 40–50 kmph are also possible in isolated areas.
Meteorologists stated that moisture-laden winds and a trough extending across southern India are driving the unstable weather conditions. Several districts in Tamil Nadu have already reported heavy rainfall, while authorities continue to monitor low-lying and flood-prone regions.
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity and follow weather updates before travel plans this weekend.
