KOCHI — The District Tourism Promotion Council has launched a year-long cultural initiative titled ‘A Walk Through Time’, aimed at transforming historic streets of Kochi into immersive educational spaces for students and young visitors.
The programme is designed to introduce participants to the city’s rich heritage, architecture, traditions and multicultural history through guided walking tours. Carefully curated routes pass through heritage precincts, old markets, traditional neighbourhoods and historically significant landmarks, offering students a hands-on learning experience beyond textbooks.
Tour guides trained in local history and storytelling will lead the walks, explaining the evolution of Kochi as a major port city influenced by diverse cultures over centuries. The initiative also highlights traditional art forms, local crafts, food practices and everyday life that shaped the region’s identity.
Officials said the programme aims to foster a sense of pride and awareness among students while encouraging heritage conservation. Schools and colleges will be able to register for scheduled tours throughout the year, making the initiative accessible to a wide range of learners.
By blending tourism with education, the organisers hope to promote responsible travel and ensure that Kochi’s cultural legacy is preserved and appreciated by future generations.
