A Vande Bharat Express has crossed the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River at a speed of 100 kmph. The train also crossed the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, during the latest test run. The maximum permissible speed on the 111-km Katra–Banihal section has been increased from 75 kmph to 100 kmph after safety assessments. The development is significant for railway connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, where trains must operate through challenging mountainous terrain. The Chenab Bridge is a major engineering project and forms part of the railway connection linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India. Officials say the higher permitted speed will help trains travel more efficiently along the route while maintaining the required safety standards. The successful run also demonstrates the growing use of modern railway infrastructure in difficult geographical areas
