Fisherfolk from Chennai’s coastal belt have intensified their opposition to the Tamil Nadu government’s proposed ₹1,200-crore Secretariat-Assembly complex at Pattinapakkam, raising concerns about their livelihoods, access to the sea and traditional fishing areas.
On September 29, hundreds of fishermen and women gathered at Srinivasapuram Beach in Pattinapakkam to protest the proposed project. Another group conducted a black-flag procession, while fishing communities from areas stretching from Ennore to Kovalam participated in the demonstrations.
