KOCHI, September 29: The seventh edition of the India Today Conclave South 2026 began in Kochi on Tuesday, bringing together political leaders, policymakers, business representatives, defence experts, technology professionals and cultural figures for a two-day programme focused on South India’s role in India’s next phase of growth. The conclave is being held at the Grand Hyatt Kochi on September 29 and 30.

Held under the theme “Surging South,” the conclave is examining the region’s economic ambitions, political influence, technological development and cultural strength. Sessions are covering issues ranging from governance and investment to defence manufacturing, education, employment and maritime trade.

The opening-day programme includes a session on “Challenges of the South”, followed by discussions on India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing and maritime security. Experts from the Defence Research and Development Organisation, NewSpace Research & Technologies, Astra Microwave Products and the Indian Coast Guard are among those participating.

Kerala’s economic and development priorities also feature prominently. Sessions are examining how the state can address the brain drain, strengthen its economy, improve employment opportunities and build connections between education and jobs. Another discussion focuses on Kerala’s ambitions in the transshipment sector, with representatives from the Ports Department and Vizhinjam International Seaport taking part.

Business and investment are another major focus of the event. The programme includes discussions on Andhra Pradesh’s investment environment, South India’s emergence as a financial hub and opportunities connected with technology, enterprise and economic expansion.

The conclave also features sessions on education, digital storytelling, youth, sports and culture. Cultural presentations include Koodiyattam and music, while filmmakers and actors are participating in discussions examining South India’s changing cultural landscape.

The two-day gathering has brought together speakers from across South India and beyond, including Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The official speaker list includes business leaders, academics, policymakers, defence officials, artists and representatives from the technology and financial sectors.

The second day, September 30, will continue with sessions covering Telangana’s growth and governance, Andhra Pradesh’s development, South India’s sports ambitions and its emergence as a financial hub, alongside discussions on youth and culture.

With its wide-ranging programme, the India Today Conclave South 2026 is providing a platform for discussions on the opportunities and challenges facing the southern states, with particular attention to the region’s contribution to India’s economic, technological and strategic development.
