THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, September 29: Kerala is expected to experience another spell of rain from September 30 to October 3, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of the state.

The IMD has issued yellow alerts for several districts during the four-day period. On September 30, the alert is in force for Pathanamthitta and Idukki. On October 1, it covers Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Malappuram. On October 2, alerts apply to Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad, while Pathanamthitta and Idukki are listed for October 3.

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall refers to 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain within 24 hours. Isolated locations across Kerala may receive rainfall within this range during the warning period.

The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, with wind speeds potentially reaching 40–50 kmph at isolated locations between September 30 and October 2.

The renewed rain activity follows a period of intermittent showers across the state. Weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled in several areas, particularly during afternoon and evening hours when thunderstorms may develop.

Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms, particularly by avoiding open areas and taking shelter inside safe buildings when lightning is observed. The public has also been advised to stay away from trees, exposed structures and other potentially unsafe locations during strong winds.

The latest forecast comes as Kerala enters the transition from the southwest monsoon season toward the post-monsoon period. Weather systems over the wider region could continue to influence rainfall activity over the state in the coming days.

Residents in yellow-alert districts are advised to follow updates from the IMD and Kerala State Disaster Management Authority and remain alert to any changes in district-level warnings, particularly if rainfall intensifies.
