Chennai’s residential property market recorded a 17% year-on-year decline in housing sales during the July–September 2026 quarter, according to data from real-estate analytics firm PropEquity. The city was among the markets that recorded the sharpest declines during the quarter.

Across nine major Indian cities, housing sales fell by around 6% year-on-year, from 1,09,420 units in July–September 2025 to 1,03,170 units in the corresponding period of 2026. New housing supply also declined, with developers launching 98,165 units compared with 1,00,330 units a year earlier.
