Yemen is facing a renewed humanitarian emergency as intensified fighting has forced more than 100,000 people to flee their homes inside the country, according to the UN refugee agency. Thousands more have crossed the Red Sea toward Djibouti in search of safety.

The latest displacement has been concentrated along parts of Yemen’s western Red Sea coast, where renewed fighting has affected civilian communities. Many displaced families have left with few belongings and are facing shortages of food, water and shelter. Humanitarian operations are also being complicated by insecurity, damaged infrastructure, disrupted communications and restrictions on movement.

The crisis comes on top of Yemen’s already severe humanitarian needs. The UN says more than 22 million people will require humanitarian assistance and protection in 2026, while food insecurity and malnutrition remain major concerns.

Aid agencies are calling for additional international support as the number of displaced people continues to rise and access to affected communities becomes more difficult. The UN has also released emergency funding to support people displaced by the latest escalation.
