Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is hosting a major investment summit in Toronto on September 14โ€“15, 2026, as Canada seeks to attract global capital and reduce its economic dependence on the United States. More than 300 CEOs and senior investment executives, representing firms managing roughly $120 trillion in assets, are taking part.

The government is promoting more than 160 projects in areas including critical minerals, energy, artificial intelligence, data centres, defence, transportation and infrastructure. Ottawa aims to attract over C$1 trillion in investment over the next five years.

The summit comes as trade relations with the U.S. remain tense. Carney is also looking to strengthen Canada’s economic relationships with Europe, Asia and other international markets, presenting Canada as a stable destination for long-term investment.

On September 15, hundreds of protesters also marched in Toronto, criticizing the summit’s focus on fossil fuels, defence, privatization and large corporate investment.
