HYDERABAD | September 2, 2026: A fire broke out at the Madannapet vegetable market in Saidabad late Tuesday night, September 1, damaging several shops and causing panic among traders in the busy market area.
The fire was reported at around 10:37 pm, after flames were noticed in a shop where ginger and garlic were being stored. Preliminary information suggests that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze, although officials are yet to establish the exact cause.
The flames quickly spread from the initial shop to four nearby smaller shops, with stored goods and materials adding to the intensity of the fire. Several shops were reportedly completely gutted, while the extent of the overall property and stock damage is still being assessed.
Two fire tenders, one each from Malakpet and Chandrayangutta, were rushed to the location after the alert was received. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control in less than 30 minutes, preventing it from spreading further through the market. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. The prompt response from the fire and emergency teams helped contain the situation before it could cause wider damage in the crowded commercial area.
Officials are now assessing the losses and examining the circumstances surrounding the fire. The incident has also renewed attention on electrical safety and fire-prevention measures in busy markets, where closely packed shops and combustible materials can allow flames to spread rapidly.
