Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Egypt for his first visit to the country in a decade, highlighting China’s growing diplomatic and economic influence in the Middle East.
Xi was welcomed in Cairo by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. During the three-day visit, the two leaders are expected to discuss stronger economic cooperation, regional security and broader international issues.
The visit comes as China seeks to expand its role in the Middle East. Egypt has become an increasingly important partner for Beijing through Chinese investment, infrastructure projects and cooperation linked to the Belt and Road Initiative.
The leaders are also marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, with both countries looking to deepen their strategic partnership amid changing regional alliances.
