The Tamil Nadu government is considering postponing the reopening of schools due to possible heatwave conditions expected during the first week of June in Chennai and several other districts. School Education Minister Rajmohan said the government has requested a detailed weather report from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) before taking a final decision.

Officials stated that student health and safety will be the top priority if temperatures continue to remain unusually high across the state. The final decision is expected after discussions with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and weather experts.

Parents and teachers have also urged the government to reconsider the reopening schedule as Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu continue to experience intense summer heat conditions.
