The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Chennai has seized 717 kilograms of ganja valued at approximately ₹3.58 crore in a major interstate anti-drug operation. Officials said the contraband was being transported through Tamil Nadu as part of a wider trafficking network linked to multiple states in South India.

According to NCB officials, the operation was carried out following intelligence inputs about large-scale narcotics movement through highway routes connecting Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The ganja was reportedly hidden inside commercial transport vehicles and packed in dozens of sealed bundles to avoid detection.

Authorities stated that several suspects were detained during coordinated raids conducted across different locations near Chennai and adjoining districts. Investigators believe the syndicate was supplying cannabis to major urban markets, including Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kerala.

The seized narcotics were confiscated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and officials have launched further investigations to identify the masterminds behind the trafficking network. NCB officers also indicated that additional arrests are expected in the coming days as digital evidence and transport records are analyzed.

Senior officials described the seizure as one of the significant ganja busts reported in the Chennai region this year, highlighting growing concerns over interstate drug smuggling routes operating through southern India. Authorities said surveillance along highways and logistics corridors has now been intensified to prevent further trafficking attempts.
