Thiruvananthapuram, July 22: Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan has extended the state government’s support to students protesting over the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination, calling on the Union Government to take stronger measures to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in the national medical entrance examination.
Addressing the media after a Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said the concerns raised by students across the country deserved serious attention and should not be ignored. He expressed concern over the distress caused to aspiring medical students and emphasized that the integrity of national-level competitive examinations must be protected. He also criticized the handling of the protests, alleging that action taken against demonstrators in the national capital was unwarranted.
Satheesan stated that the Kerala government stands in solidarity with students demanding a fair and transparent examination process. He noted that the Kerala Legislative Assembly had earlier passed a resolution on the NEET issue and reiterated the state’s position that the Centre must restore confidence among students by conducting a credible investigation into the alleged paper leak and related irregularities.
The Chief Minister also pointed to the emotional and psychological impact the controversy has had on students and their families, urging the Union Government to act swiftly. He stressed that students preparing for professional courses should not be subjected to uncertainty because of lapses in the examination system and called for measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak has sparked protests in several parts of the country, with student organizations and political parties demanding accountability and reforms in the conduct of national entrance examinations. Demonstrations have intensified in recent days, with opposition leaders voicing support for the students and seeking a transparent investigation into the matter.
The Centre has maintained that appropriate steps are being taken to address concerns related to the examination, while the ongoing protests continue to fuel nationwide debate over the credibility of India’s competitive examination system.
