Thiruvananthapuram, July 22: The Kerala Government has approved 120 temporary Plus One batches across 117 higher secondary schools in four districts to tackle the shortage of seats for students seeking admission in the current academic year. The decision was taken by the General Education Department following widespread concerns from students, parents, and educational organizations over the limited availability of higher secondary seats.
According to the department, the newly sanctioned batches will help accommodate thousands of students who were unable to secure admission during the initial allotment process. The additional batches are expected to ease pressure on schools in districts where demand for Plus One admissions has significantly exceeded the available capacity.
Education Minister V. Sivankutty stated that the government’s priority is to ensure that no eligible student is denied an opportunity to pursue higher secondary education due to a shortage of seats. The temporary batches have been distributed based on the number of applications received and the availability of infrastructure in the selected schools.
Officials explained that the move is intended to bridge the gap until a long-term solution is implemented to address the growing demand for higher secondary education.
