According to reports, areas including Panampilly Nagar, Kadavanthra, MG Road, Ravipuram, Kaloor, Ernakulam North, and Ernakulam South experienced severe waterlogging after continuous rainfall coincided with rising tidal levels. Water entered several residential colonies, affecting daily commuters and local businesses.
Traffic movement slowed significantly during peak hours as vehicles struggled through flooded roads. Commuters reported delays across major junctions, while public transport services faced minor disruptions due to water accumulation in key corridors. Emergency teams and civic workers were deployed to clear blocked drainage channels and monitor vulnerable locations.
Officials stated that the combination of heavy rain and high tide reduced the efficiency of stormwater drainage systems, making it difficult for accumulated rainwater to flow into canals and backwaters. The India Meteorological Department has maintained weather alerts for Ernakulam district, forecasting more rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds as monsoon conditions strengthen over the Arabian Sea. Authorities advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the Kochi Corporation has intensified pre-monsoon preparedness activities, including drainage cleaning, canal maintenance, and flood monitoring operations. Residents have once again raised concerns about recurring urban flooding and demanded long-term infrastructure improvements to address drainage bottlenecks across the city.
