Kochi City Police arrested 36 individuals during a series of coordinated anti-drug raids conducted under “Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt,” Kerala’s statewide campaign against narcotics trafficking and substance abuse. The operation, launched by the state government earlier this week, aims to dismantle drug distribution networks and curb the growing narcotics menace across Kerala.
According to police officials, extensive inspections and raids were carried out across various parts of Kochi, resulting in the registration of 33 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The operation targeted suspected drug peddlers, users, and individuals believed to be involved in narcotics-related activities.
One of the most significant seizures was reported from an apartment in the Thrikkakara area, where police detained three individuals and recovered approximately 437 grams of suspected MDMA, a synthetic drug that has become a major concern for law enforcement agencies in Kerala. Investigators are continuing inquiries to determine the source of the narcotics and identify larger distribution networks connected to the case.
Operation Toofan was launched as a comprehensive anti-drug initiative with a strong focus on identifying suppliers, traffickers, and organized criminal groups involved in the illegal drug trade. The campaign combines intelligence-based policing, surveillance, community participation, and awareness programs to combat the spread of narcotics, particularly among young people.
Statewide, the operation has already produced significant results. Kerala Police reported that more than 100 drug-related cases were registered and over 130 individuals arrested within the first phase of the campaign. Authorities have also seized substantial quantities of cannabis and synthetic drugs during raids conducted across multiple districts.
Police officials stated that investigations will continue in Kochi and other districts to identify major suppliers and interstate drug trafficking links. Special attention is being given to locations near educational institutions, residential complexes, lodges, and public gathering spots where drug-related activities have previously been reported.
Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities and supporting efforts to create a drug-free Kerala. The government has indicated that Operation Toofan will continue as a long-term mission aimed at protecting communities and reducing the influence of narcotics across the state.
