The Greater Chennai Corporation has extended the deadline for renewing pet dog and cat licences until June 15, giving residents additional time to complete registration formalities.
Officials stated that pet owners who fail to renew licences before the deadline may face penalties of up to ₹5,000 under revised civic regulations. The move comes after increased requests from residents seeking more time for documentation and online application processing.
According to civic authorities, the licence system helps improve pet vaccination tracking, public safety, and stray animal management across Chennai. Residents can renew licences through the corporation’s online portal or designated zonal offices.
The corporation has also urged pet owners to ensure that anti-rabies vaccination certificates and updated owner details are submitted during the renewal process.
