BENGALURU, September 26: The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) is moving ahead with major traction and power infrastructure work, with K-RIDE inviting bids for a ₹986.50-crore package covering two of the network’s four corridors.

The suburban rail network is planned to span 148.17 km with 57 stations, connecting Bengaluru with important suburban and peripheral areas including Devanahalli, Chikkabanavara, Whitefield and Rajanukunte.

The latest tender covers the complete Corridor 2 and Corridor 4, including traction and power-supply systems along the alignments. The government e-procurement notice puts the tender value at ₹986,50,44,980, with the work period specified as 912 days.

The electrical package includes receiving substations, incoming cabling from grid substations, 25 kV AC traction systems, 33 kV auxiliary substations and 25 kV overhead equipment. It also includes auxiliary power systems and SCADA infrastructure required for railway operations.

Corridor 2, known as the Mallige Line, will connect Baiyyappanahalli Terminal with Chikkabanavara over about 25 km. Corridor 4, or the Kanaka Line, will connect Heelalige with Rajanukunte over approximately 46 km. Together, the two corridors form a significant portion of the planned suburban rail network.

Progress is also being reported on other components of the project. Land acquisition for Corridor 2 has been completed, while station-building and other construction works are underway. On Corridor 4, 43 acres of the required 57 acres had been acquired, with station-building contracts also awarded.

The overall BSRP has been sanctioned at a cost of ₹15,767 crore and is being executed by Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited, or K-RIDE. Funding is structured through contributions from the Union and Karnataka governments along with debt financing.

The suburban rail system is intended to provide an additional mass-transit option for Bengaluru’s rapidly expanding metropolitan region. Once completed, the four-corridor network is expected to improve rail connectivity between the city and surrounding residential, commercial and industrial areas.
