Bengaluru, July 27: Bengaluru Metro has received the final train set for its much-awaited Yellow Line, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the city’s rapid transit network. With the arrival of the last of the 15 Titagarh Rail Systems–CRRC train sets, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is now a step closer to operating the Yellow Line with its full planned fleet.
The newly delivered six-coach train has reached the Hebbagodi depot, where it will undergo mandatory inspections, static tests, and a 750-kilometre dynamic trial run before being cleared for commercial service. Metro officials said these safety and performance tests are essential to ensure reliable operations before the train enters passenger service.
Once all 15 train sets are commissioned, 13 trains will be deployed for regular passenger operations, while two will remain as reserve units for maintenance and emergency requirements. This expanded fleet is expected to reduce peak-hour waiting times from around seven minutes to approximately four to five minutes, offering faster and more convenient travel for thousands of daily commuters.
The Yellow Line, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, serves one of Bengaluru’s busiest corridors, including major residential neighbourhoods, industrial zones, and the city’s technology hub around Electronic City. The line has witnessed strong passenger demand since opening, making additional trains crucial for reducing overcrowding and improving service reliability.
The delivery of the complete fleet also marks the resolution of earlier delays caused by supply-chain challenges and production setbacks. Commuters have welcomed the development, expressing hope that improved train frequency will make daily travel smoother and reduce congestion during rush hours.
BMRCL officials stated that, following the successful completion of testing and regulatory approvals, the remaining train sets will be inducted into service in phases. The enhanced operations are expected to significantly improve urban mobility, support Bengaluru’s growing public transport needs, and encourage more residents to choose metro travel over private vehicles.
