Bengaluru, July 25: The Karnataka Congress government is expected to announce a long-awaited expansion of the state Cabinet in the coming days as consultations between the state leadership and the Congress high command continue in New Delhi. The exercise is aimed at filling vacant ministerial positions ahead of the upcoming Assembly session while ensuring balanced regional, caste, and gender representation within the government.
According to party sources, Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has been holding discussions with senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, to finalise the list of new ministers. The proposed expansion is expected to induct several fresh faces, including women legislators and younger leaders, while also addressing demands from various regions of the state for greater representation.
However, the announcement has faced repeated delays due to the Congress leadership’s engagements in New Delhi, including the ongoing Parliament session and protests over the NEET issue. Despite the postponement, senior party leaders have indicated that the cabinet expansion remains a priority and is likely to be completed before the Assembly convenes.
Political observers believe the reshuffle is crucial for strengthening the government’s administrative machinery, as several important portfolios are currently awaiting allocation. The expansion is also expected to help the ruling party accommodate senior legislators and first-time ministers while maintaining political balance within the organisation.
The Congress leadership has not officially disclosed the names of the legislators likely to be inducted into the Cabinet.
