Bengaluru, July 28: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has stepped up its citywide cleanliness campaign by expanding anti-waste initiatives aimed at improving public spaces, strengthening waste management, and taking stricter action against illegal dumping. The campaign forms part of the government’s broader “Freedom from Waste” mission to make Bengaluru cleaner, healthier, and more pedestrian-friendly.
As part of the initiative, civic agencies have launched coordinated drives to clear garbage black spots, remove waste from vacant plots, eliminate construction debris, and clean roads, footpaths, and public areas. Authorities have also directed owners of vacant properties to remove accumulated waste and overgrown vegetation, warning that civic bodies will undertake the cleanup and recover the costs from owners if they fail to comply.
The campaign also focuses on improving pedestrian infrastructure. Officials have ordered the removal of utility obstructions, abandoned vehicles, illegal encroachments, and other obstacles that hinder safe movement on footpaths. These measures are expected to enhance accessibility, reduce accidents, and improve the city’s overall urban landscape.
In a significant enforcement measure, Bengaluru has also begun registering criminal cases against individuals caught illegally dumping garbage. Ward marshals and civic officials are conducting regular inspections, while surveillance and public reporting mechanisms are being strengthened to discourage repeat violations.
City officials have appealed to residents, businesses, and property owners to actively support the campaign by disposing of waste responsibly, maintaining clean surroundings, and reporting illegal dumping. Authorities say sustained public participation is essential to achieving the vision of a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Bengaluru.
