India has proposed a $25-billion funding pool aimed at supporting deep-tech startups working in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, drones and space technology. The proposal was highlighted in the 2026 Bharat DeepTech report and involves potential participation from government support, private equity and venture capital. Deep technology generally refers to technologies based on scientific research or significant engineering advances. Data cited in the report show that Indian deep-tech companies received $11.4 billion in cumulative private-equity and venture-capital funding across 957 deals between 2015 and July 16, 2026. Funding has increased considerably over the years, with nearly $3 billion raised in 2025 alone. AI and generative AI companies received the largest share among the listed deep-tech sectors, attracting about $2.88 billion during the period. Business software and electric-vehicle and battery technologies each attracted around $1.5 billion. Bengaluru accounted for the largest share of recorded deals and funding, while Mumbai, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Pune and other cities also have active deep-tech ecosystems.
