Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police has expanded its use of artificial intelligence to make public grievance registration faster, more accessible and easier to track. The latest initiative, ‘SETU’, an AI-based smart kiosk, has been introduced as a pilot project at Mehdipatnam Police Station.
The kiosk is designed to help citizens communicate their complaints at police station reception counters without facing language barriers. It can digitally record a petitioner’s statement and provide an immediate acknowledgement after the complaint is submitted.
SETU supports complaint registration in nine languages, allowing people to communicate in a language they are comfortable with. The system also provides information about the next steps in the complaint process.
A key feature is its digital tracking mechanism. Each petition receives a dedicated tracking facility, allowing senior police officers to monitor the progress of the complaint and the action taken until it is resolved.
Police officials said the system could reduce the time personnel spend on manually recording complaints, allowing them to concentrate more on investigation and crime-control activities.
The initiative follows Hyderabad Police’s wider adoption of AI-based technology. Earlier this year, the department launched AI-CopWriter, which can record, transcribe and translate complaints in 10 Indian languages and assist police personnel in preparing FIR drafts.
Officials said SETU will initially be evaluated at Mehdipatnam Police Station. Based on the outcome of the pilot project, the service is expected to be introduced at other police stations in Hyderabad in a phased manner.
The move marks another step toward technology-assisted policing, with the department seeking to make grievance handling more transparent, multilingual and efficient for citizens.
