India and Canada have continued negotiations on a proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) as both countries work to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties. The fourth round of negotiations was held in New Delhi from September 14 to 19, with officials discussing areas covering goods, services and investmentCommerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Canada’s International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu have reaffirmed their governments’ intention to move the negotiations forward. Canada has said both countries share an objective of concluding negotiations by the end of 2026.

According to Canada’s government, two-way goods and services trade between the countries totalled C$30.4 billion in 2025. Canada has also set a longer-term objective of increasing bilateral trade.

The negotiations cover a broad range of commercial issues and could affect businesses involved in goods, services and investment between the two markets. The discussions are taking place as India continues to expand its network of international trade agreements.

Further negotiations will determine the final terms of any agreement. Until a deal is concluded and implemented, the existing trade arrangements between the two countries remain in place
