The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of India on September 19, with weather activity expected across multiple regions. Heavy rainfall has been forecast in areas including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, East Rajasthan, Odisha, parts of the Northeast, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Mahe.
The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms and lightning in several states and Union Territories. Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, parts of Karnataka, the northeastern states and Lakshadweep are among the areas where thunderstorms may occur.
At the same time, conditions are becoming favourable for the southwest monsoon to begin withdrawing from parts of West Rajasthan around September 19. This marks an important stage in India’s annual monsoon cycle.
Residents in areas receiving heavy rainfall have been advised to follow local weather warnings and take precautions during thunderstorms and periods of intense rain. Travellers should also monitor local conditions because heavy rainfall can affect road, rail and air transport.
The latest forecast shows that monsoon activity remains significant across several parts of the country even as withdrawal begins in the northwest.
