India is preparing to participate in the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with a contingent of 503 athletes across 36 disciplines. The Games are scheduled to officially open on September 19 and continue until October 4. India’s contingent includes 269 men and 234 women. Athletes will compete across sports including athletics, badminton, shooting, hockey, wrestling, boxing, weightlifting, archery, kabaddi, table tennis and cricket.

The Asian Games are one of the biggest multi-sport competitions in Asia, bringing together athletes from dozens of countries and regions. Indian competitors have already begun taking part in events ahead of the official opening ceremony.

India won a record 107 medals at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, and the 2026 contingent will compete across a broad range of disciplines. The current team includes experienced athletes as well as competitors participating on the continental stage.

The Games provide Indian athletes with an opportunity to compete against leading competitors from across Asia. Performance at the event can also contribute to preparation for future international competitions.
