China is set to host the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum in Beijing from September 15–17, bringing together defence officials, military representatives, diplomats and security experts from around the world.
The forum comes at a time of heightened security tensions across Asia, particularly over Taiwan, the South China Sea and China–US relations. Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun is expected to promote greater international security cooperation while emphasizing a more multipolar global security system.
Representatives from countries including Vietnam and Malaysia are expected to attend, while the United States will send a Pentagon delegation led by Cynthia Carras. The meeting is also being closely watched because of ongoing efforts to manage tensions between Beijing and Washington.
The Xiangshan Forum has become one of China’s major platforms for international defence dialogue and is often viewed as Beijing’s counterpart to the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. This year’s gathering is expected to provide an important opportunity for countries to discuss regional security, military cooperation and growing geopolitical tensions.
