Hyderabad, September 10, 2026: A major police operation involving more than 800 personnel and six IPS officers helped prevent a potential confrontation between Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supporters near former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse in Erravelli amid escalating political tensions.

The security arrangements were put in place after Congress supporters announced plans to march towards the farmhouse over alleged derogatory remarks made by BRS MLCs against Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. Police imposed restrictions in the area and deployed senior officers to prevent rival groups from coming face-to-face.

The dispute had already triggered clashes between Congress and BRS workers in Erravelli. On Tuesday, Congress and Dalit activists staged a “Dappula Mota” drum-beating protest near the farmhouse, demanding an apology over the alleged remarks. Police stopped protesters from reaching the farmhouse and detained several people to prevent further escalation.

The controversy intensified after BRS workers subsequently carried out a symbolic “purification” ritual using turmeric water at a site where Congress protesters had gathered. The action drew strong criticism from Congress leaders, who described it as an insult to Dalits. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

The Erravelli row has also spilled over into the Telangana Assembly. On Wednesday, 22 BRS MLAs, including party working president K. T. Rama Rao and former minister T. Harish Rao, were suspended for the remainder of the Monsoon Session following disruptions linked to the protests and the subsequent controversy.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has ordered an inquiry into the sequence of events surrounding the Erravelli protests and the subsequent developments. The government has said the incidents require a detailed investigation, while the BRS has accused the ruling Congress of using police action to target the Opposition.

Despite the heightened political tensions, the heavy security deployment around Erravelli helped prevent a major confrontation and maintained law and order in the area. Police remained on alert as the political dispute continued to unfold.
