Hyderabad, September 7, 2026: Hyderabad commuters may soon be able to travel on both Metro trains and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) buses using a single joint pass, following directions from Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju.
The Chief Secretary has instructed Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and TGSRTC officials to introduce daily and monthly joint passes to make public transportation more convenient and seamless for commuters. Officials from both organisations have informed the government that the technical arrangements for the system are already in place.
Authorities have been asked to quickly finalise the combined fare structure and implement the pass system. The initiative is expected to be particularly useful for passengers who use buses and Metro trains as part of the same daily journey, reducing the need to manage separate travel passes.
The move is part of broader efforts to improve Hyderabad’s public transport network and encourage greater use of mass transit. A common ticketing system could make transfers between buses and Metro services easier while offering greater convenience to regular commuters.
During his recent review, Jaju also travelled by Metro from Begumpet to Paradise and inspected passenger facilities, commercial areas and parking facilities at Metro stations. He asked officials to identify measures that could further improve the commuter experience.
The Chief Secretary also reviewed progress on the 7.5-km Old City Metro corridor and directed officials to speed up road-widening works and other preparatory activities so that the Metro project can move forward quickly.
With the technical groundwork reportedly ready, commuters are now awaiting details of the joint fare structure and the official launch date.
The proposed Metro-RTC joint pass could mark an important step towards a more integrated and commuter-friendly public transport system in Hyderabad.
