Chennai and several neighbouring districts received rain on Thursday as the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecast a continuing wet spell across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal through September 8.
For Friday, the RMC forecast light to moderate rain at isolated places, with thunderstorms possible in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Tiruchy, Madurai and parts of the Western Ghats.
In Chennai, partly cloudy conditions with light to moderate rain are expected, particularly during the evening and night. The city is likely to record a maximum temperature of around 37°C and a minimum of 27°C.
The weather system is linked to a feeble trough along and off the Tamil Nadu coast in the lower levels of the atmosphere, which is supporting isolated rainfall over parts of the state.
Rain on Thursday affected several parts of Chennai and neighbouring districts, with heavy evening traffic reported in some areas as motorists navigated wet roads.
Residents are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and allow extra travel time where rain causes reduced visibility or traffic congestion.
