Thrissur, September 1, 2026: The proposed toll-rate hike at the Paliyekkara toll plaza has been put on hold, providing temporary relief to motorists using the busy highway stretch in Thrissur.

The toll operator had proposed revised rates at the plaza, but the increase cannot be implemented until the company receives the necessary permission from the Kerala High Court. As a result, motorists will continue to pay the existing toll rates for the time being.

Paliyekkara is one of Kerala’s important toll plazas and handles a large volume of traffic every day, including private cars, buses, trucks and other commercial vehicles. Any increase in toll charges is therefore expected to have a direct impact on regular commuters as well as transport operators.

The proposed hike had attracted attention among motorists and transport-sector stakeholders, particularly because higher toll charges could increase the operating costs of commercial vehicles and indirectly affect transportation expenses.

With the court’s permission still pending, the revised rates remain on hold. The toll operator will have to await further legal proceedings before any new tariff can come into effect.

The development also means that motorists travelling through Paliyekkara can continue using the toll plaza under the current applicable rates until further notice.

Authorities and the toll operator are expected to follow the directions of the Kerala High Court regarding the proposed revision. Any future change in toll rates will depend on the court’s decision and the completion of the required procedures.

For daily commuters and freight operators, the temporary suspension of the hike comes as welcome news, particularly at a time when fuel, maintenance and transportation costs remain significant concerns.
