The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced that a network of resting pods for sanitation workers is expected to be completed by the end of July 2026. The initiative is aimed at improving the welfare of frontline sanitation staff by providing clean, secure, and comfortable spaces where they can rest during breaks, particularly while working long shifts in Chennai’s hot and humid weather.
Each resting pod will be equipped with essential facilities such as seating, drinking water, fans, toilets, and wash areas, offering workers a safe environment to recover during their duties. The project is part of the corporation’s broader effort to improve workplace conditions and recognize the vital role sanitation workers play in maintaining public health and city cleanliness.
According to GCC officials, the resting pods are being established at key locations across the city to ensure easy access for sanitation teams.
